Never Enough
Do you ever feel like you can’t do one more thing? Every ounce of your energy was given away, but you aren’t even sure where it went? Taking care of this and then that and then one more thing, but wait...I forgot the other thing that HAD to be done today. It’s exhausting. It’s also completely unrealistic to think that we can give it all away without saving anything for ourselves.
The last 10 months have felt like a never ending movie on repeat. Every Monday I set some goal for the week thinking that I have so much time to get it done. Every Friday I realize that I didn’t accomplish it, and I don’t want to do it over the weekend. I’ll add it to the list for next week. The long list of things that may never get done. Remember when we used to say “if I had more time, I would totally do this project”. When we are finally awarded the time, it just feels too hard to do it.
But here’s the thing...every day is a fresh start. What if instead of looking at what we haven’t accomplished, we celebrate the things we did do? Some days by 11am, I have already exercised, gotten the kids ready for school, helped them with homeschool assignments, checked my email, attended a work meeting, and somehow managed to eat my own breakfast. If you take a step back, you may actually realize you are doing way more than you ever thought.
The reality is that no matter how much time we have, there is never enough. We must stop setting unrealistic expectations of ourselves. Getting through each day IS an accomplishment. Make the goal to save some energy for yourself instead of giving it all away. Allow yourself time to breathe. Reflect on the successes instead of the “failures”. You are enough. I am enough. We are more than enough.
